Step 1: Create New View (Best Practices)
Where: Left Panel > Admin > 3rd column (Create View)
1st view: All Website Data
Created by default from google.
Leave it untouched, unfiltered.
It contains all the historical data since the beginning of tracking.
2nd view: Default Website
Apply very little, basic filters in general for the website, to have a clean view for everyday uses.
Example, your site will only be accessible to visitors in certain geographical region. You won't bother other countries visitors, filter down to that region.
3rd to N view: Specific
Very specific filtering for specific needs.
Step 2: Add Filters to View (Best Practices)
Where: Left Panel > Admin > 3rd column (Create View) > Choose the view > underneath ~ Filters
The moment a filter is applied to a view:
Historical data in the same view prior to this moment remains unchanged.
New sets (the filter down) of data will be available from this moment onward.
Filter order matters !!!
Rank 1 has the highest order, followed by 2 and so on.
the output of one filter becomes the input for the next filter.
Must have filters:
IP address
Developer, tester will keep accessing the sites during development and testing. False alarm on higher website traffics.
Exclude those IP. Leave the client's alone for their home / office IP as visits from the same IP might be the legitimate website traffics.
Page URL case sensitive
GA sees the same URL in different case as different unique pages. Data is going to show up multiple times.
Force all the URLs to be lower case.
Other example: WHERE condition IN (x, y...)
Filter Type = Custom > Include Filter Field = Choose the Condition > Filter Pattern = X|Y
Preview the filter before applying to the view
Click on the "verifying this filter" at the bottom of the page.
Concept
Main Site = https://tagmanager.google.com/#/home
An Account is the topmost level of organization in Tag Manager.
Typically, only one account is needed per company.
An Account contains one or more containers
One for each type of property you own: web, iOS app, Android app, or AMP.
You can manage multiple GTM Account with one single google login.
Initial Setup
Install Chrome plugin for troubleshooting later on = Tag Assistant (by Google).
Even right after the Container is created, it's not live yet.
The versions tab will indicate = Container Not Published?
But Tag Assistant plugin can already detects that's a GTM?
What is the best practice here?
SUBMIT the container without any tags first to make it live or only SUBMIT it if there's any tag, since it's already LIVE?
Workspace
PEVIEW
What is this for? Doesn't seems any different in preview mode.
